Lord Grey Academy Gets a Fresh Look with Altro XpressLay and Heckmondwike
At PDQ Contract Flooring, we’re always proud to support education spaces with practical, long-lasting flooring solutions that stand up to daily demands. This February half term, our team was called in to carry out a flooring upgrade at Lord Grey Academy in Bletchley, Milton Keynes—all completed within a tight one-week window.
A Practical Upgrade for Busy School Spaces
The project involved uplifting and disposing of the existing vinyl and carpet tiles across communal areas, one classroom, and one admin office. For the new installation, we used a combination of Altro XpressLay adhesive-free vinyl and durable Heckmondwike matting and carpet tiles—materials chosen specifically for their performance in high-traffic educational settings.
In total, we laid 120m² of Altro XpressLay vinyl in the communal areas. This clever, adhesive-free flooring can be fitted over subfloors with up to 97% RH (relative humidity), making it a reliable choice for school environments. At the entrances, we installed 15m² of Heckmondwike Hippo barrier matting to help manage dirt and moisture, and inside, 75m² of Heckmondwike Supacord carpet tiles were laid in a smart quarter-turn pattern in the classroom and office spaces.
Completed on Time, to the Highest Standard
All works were completed over the February half term, ensuring zero disruption to students or staff. We were really pleased to receive some kind words from the school following completion:
