Revitalising an Oak Floor: PDQ's Restoration in Daventry
The PDQ team recently brought an oak floor back to its former glory for a customer at their home in Daventry.
This floor sanding project was quite local to our Northants HQ and involved sanding and resealing 60m2 of engineered oak flooring.
We were tasked with taking back the oak floor back to bare wood - Removing all the old sealant along with the scratches and stains the floor has acquired over the years. As the customer was living in the property as we undertook the project, we made sure that the project was completed within 3 days and caused as little disruption as possible for them. The flooring area included the kitchen-diner, hall & study, so was quite a substantial section of the living area.
Our efficient and dust extracting machines made good work of removing the years of wear on the flooring. Firstly we used our Lagler Hummel belt sanding machine to cut through the top layer and remove all the scratches and stains. This process involves carefully going over the all the floor with a coarse 60grit to start then through the grades to 120grit. then for the edges we use a specific Lagler edging machine, again carefully going round the sides with each grit grade.
Then finally we use a Lagler Trio which is a finishing sander. This machine takes out any final scuffs and marks for a perfect finish!
Once all the sanding was completed the room was then hoovered meticulously ready to be re-sealed. Our customer wanted a natural wood finish so applied Bona Raw lacquer. This product protects the floor extremely well, even very high traffic floors but changes the colour of the wood very minimally for a very natural look.
We have many years of experience in restoring wood floors, and you be surprised how the most worn out looking floors, can be transformed! Also after sanding, there are many different finishes and colours we can apply to the wood floor to suit all tastes.
